About Lesotho

Lesotho, a picturesque mountainous kingdom nestled within South Africa, offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. This landlocked country, spanning approximately 30,355 square kilometers, is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, friendly people, and vibrant traditions.

Geography and Climate

Lesotho is a land of dramatic contrasts, with its terrain ranging from lush lowlands to towering highlands. The Senqu River Valley cuts through the heart of the country, while the foothills provide a picturesque backdrop. The country’s high elevation results in a cooler climate compared to other regions at the same latitude, with rainy summers and dry winters.

Administrative Division

Lesotho is administratively divided into ten districts: Berea, Butha-Buthe, Leribe, Mafeteng, Maseru, Mohale’s Hoek, Mokhotlong, Qacha’s Nek, Quthing, and Thaba-Tseka. These districts are further subdivided into 80 constituencies, each composed of local community councils. This decentralized governance structure plays a vital role in preserving Lesotho’s cultural identity and addressing local needs.
